This contains all of my most popular ones and a bunch of others besides. If you want to see some highlights, I’ve collected a list of some of what I regard as the “best” posts. It’s mostly about programming and mathematics, but also ranges across anything else I happen to be thinking about at the moment, including feminism, general philosophy, cooking, fiction, game design and my manifesto for what I will do when I eventually take over the world. Most of the time, dust accumulates on the laptop fans, causing them to make noise. Additionally, the fan may become loose, and the only way to fix the problem is to replace it with a new one compatible with your laptop model. Is there anything else that I might missin. Im not doing any hard stuff, just internet browsing, etc and every few minutes the fan starts to spin real fast and noisy, and then stops. Thermal management has also been set to quiet.
I noticed that whenever my laptop was plugged into A/C power, the fan just ramps up after a few minutes even if CPU usage is low (< 10). I purchased a new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 a couple weeks ago. I have a tendency to rant entertainingly, a fondness for quality and an annoying tendency to tell you why you’re doing it wrong and you should do it my way instead.

Every time the computer is turned on, the fan starts out at full speed and won't stop until. By training I’m a mathematician, but between then and starting my PhD I spent a bit over a decade working in industry as a software developer. The cooling fan on my fairly new (about 10 months old) Dell XPS M1330 is suddenly refusing to slow down. Of the back of that work, I’m currently doing a PhD in test-case reduction (“shrinking” in property-based terminology) with Alastair Donaldson’s Multicore Programming Group at Imperial College London.
